MATERNITY LEAVE

Occasional Teachers in LTOs have access to a maternity leave top-up. The top-up is the difference between what the OT will receive from Employment Insurance maternity benefits and what they would have earned in their LTO.

 

The top-up is for 8 weeks or the length of the LTO, whichever comes first. This means that if your LTO ends before the 8 weeks are done, then the top-up will end. 

 

The end date of any LTO is upon the return of the permanent teacher to their assignment. As such, if you are in an open-ended LTO, the end date of your LTO will be the return of the permanent teacher.
